Trump (or a Trumpist) could well win the 2024 US presidential election, and if he does, American democracy as we have known it will probably come to an end. Australia's best-informed commentator on US politics sends a chilling warning about the implications for Australia.

What if Trump (or a Trump-like candidate) becomes US president in 2024?

Leading expert and US and Australian politics insider Bruce Wolpe reveals the many ways in which Australia was damaged by Donald Trump's presidency.

His speech Trump's Australia, How Trumpism changed Australia and the shocking consequences for us of a second term was recorded on the 18th of October 2023. Watch the full speech at Per Capita’s YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/@PerCapitaAUS

Welcome back to Re:CAP - Per Capita's premier podcast where we unpack our latest research and examine the inequalities in Australian society.

This week, Emma Dawson is joined by Per Capita’s Andrew Herington Fellow, Lucy Tonkin, to chat about the Centre for Equitable Housing’s second paper from their Australian Housing Monitor: Glass Ceilings: Gendered Inequality in the Housing System.

This paper explores some of the gendered inequalities within the housing system, based on the Australian Housing Monitor, a recent survey of nearly 4000 people. Differences in how men and women experience affordability, security, and quality of housing are evident across nearly every metric.

He worked night shifts at the local servo to get through university, later opening his own small business. Peter was elected to Federal Parliament in 2016. Although most members of the Labor Party are not in a faction, they dominate the party more than ever before. Factions provide stability, yet risk curtailing debate and reducing the scope for regular members to become involved.

For Australia’s oldest and greatest political party to thrive, it is important to consider the role that factions play today, and how they will evolve in the future.

Andrew Leigh is the Assistant Minister for Competition, Charities, Treasury and Employment, and Federal Member for Fenner in the ACT. Prior to being elected in 2010, Andrew was a professor of economics at the Australian National University.

Listen to his landmark speech on Labor Factions, recorded at the John Cain Lunch on the 19th of July 2023, hosted by Per Capita.
